  • Connecticut: Draconian Pistol Ban Introduced in Hartford
As a new legislative session begins in Connecticut, it certainly feels like Groundhog Day again as Gov. Ned Lamont unveiled his latest swipe at law-abiding gun owners.  The state’s Chief Executive came out of the blocks fast this year with Governor’s Bill HB-5043 which would ban “convertible pistols.”  It is already illegal to convert a gun into an automatic firearm.  However, under this legislation, “convertible pistol” is defined in such a way that an entire class of commonly-owned firearms would become illegal and banned.  To say that this legislation is on shaky constitutional footing would be an understatement.  If HB-5043 is enacted, possessing such a firearm would result in a Class D felony.  If would take effect on July 1, 2026.
